Michael Connarty
Labour Member of UK Parliament - Linlithgow and East Falkirk Constituency
Speaking in The Commons is one of the ways I try to get a FAIR DEAL for the people of Linlithgow and East Falkirk. TV covers some Commons debates and most Question Times sessions but much of the work takes place in the committee rooms in Westminster.
Since 1998 I have been a member of the European Scrutiny Select Committee and was Chair from 2005 to 2010. This committee is responsible for looking at many controversial European issues that require an input from British Government Ministers.
As a member of the Scottish Parliamentary Labour Party Group (of which I have been Chair and Vice-Chair in the past) I am in regular contact with Labour's Shadow Scotland Office Ministers. We hold the Scottish Government in Holyrood and the Scotland Office in Westminster to account and stand up for the people of Scotland at all times.
Trade Unions are vital to the Labour Movement. The ability to combine together in Trade Unions is a basic right in a free society. I am a member of the Trade Union Group of MP's who take a deeper interest in making certain the matters that are important to those employees who are trade unionists are raised in parliament.
It's important for an MP to report to the local constituency Labour Party. Local party members put in a lot of work helping to get an MP elected.
