Michael Connarty
Labour Member of UK Parliament - Linlithgow and East Falkirk Constituency
Speaking in The Commons is one of the ways I try to get a FAIR DEAL for the people of Linlithgow and East Falkirk. TV covers some Commons debates and most Question Times sessions but much of the work takes place in the committee rooms in Westminster.
Since 1998 I have been a member of the European Scrutiny Select Committee and am now the Chair. This committee is responsible for looking at many controversial European issues that require an input from British Government ministers.
The Scottish Parliamentary Labour Party Group, of which I have been Vice-Chair and Chair in the past, keeps me in regular contact with the new Scotland Office ministers to discuss the progress being made by government.
Trade Unions are vital to the Labour Movement. The ability to combine together in Trade Unions is a basic right in a free society. I am a member of the Trade Union Group of MP's who take a deeper interest in making certain the matters that are important to those employees who are trade unionists are raised in parliament.
