Michael Connarty
Labour Member of UK Parliament - Linlithgow and East Falkirk Constituency
Michael Connarty MP recently visited West Lothian Credit Union Forum which is based at 15-19 Jarvey Street in Bathgate. He spoke with Business Development Officer, Janet Mundy, who informed him of all the work done by Credit Unions.
Michael said, "The money minefield board game shown in the picture opposite is a great idea for teaching young and not so young people about the difficulties of handling money wisely, and of the usefulness of Credit Unions for saving and borrowing money".
One major concern expressed was the marked increase in defaults through Bankruptcy Actions, since the process of Bankruptcy Declarations were made easier.
Michael added, "This is an increasing concern for a community based organisation who rely on their memers deposits and timely repayments of loans to sustain themselves and the Credit Union principle. I will be writing to the Chancellor, Alistair Darling, asking for assistance in these difficult economic times.
