Welcome for Bathgate Railway Jobs

Michael Connarty MP and Mary Mulligan MSP welcome the jobs promise from Steve Montgomery of First ScotRail, following a meeting in their office in Bathgate to discuss the future of First ScotRail’s railway project linking Bathgate to Edinburgh and Glasgow. The meeting was originally held to discuss the timescale for ironing out the problems which have occurred during the building of the double line from Edinburgh to Bathgate and issues relating to the Bathgate to Airdrie link on the new Edinburgh to Bathgate to Glasgow line.

Michael said, “We have had a very positive meeting covering First ScotRail’s proposals to end the termination of trains at Livingston North and accept the pledge that the new line will ensure all trains run through to Bathgate on every occasion.

We will be writing to Network Rail to ensure that the problems cause by flooding on the line do not recur. The Additional announcement that a new first ScotRail office will be built at Bathgate is really good news on the local job front. This will start with 16 members of staff, with the intention of building up to 70 full time well paid jobs being based at Bathgate. We were assured that these would be new jobs as part of First ScotRail’s plans to expand jobs in Scotland by up to 200.

It is really great news”.

Mary said, “I welcome First ScotRail’s decision to locate 70 new jobs in Bathgate, this will be a further economic boost for the town. The dual tracking of the Bathgate Edinburgh line, as part of the £300 million investment, is good news too. Now First ScotRail must ensure trains run on time and overcrowding at peak times is reduced”.
