Update on Ineos situation

Michael Connarty MP for Linlithgow and East Falkirk is in Edinburgh today along with John Hutton MP, Secretary of State for Business and Enterprise who is here to help things move forward.

Michael said “The Secretary of State will be visiting the Grangemouth complex this morning and he and I will meet with the workforce and Trade Union representatives in the early afternoon.

I am still seeking a meeting with Jim Ratcliffe, billionaire owner of the Grangemouth Complex and I am still hopeful that an acceptable settlement can be negotiated if the company have any wish to be reasonable over the question of the workforce pensions.

The company offer is still considerably worse than the pension package offered to their workforce on the former ICI site at Runcorn in England where Tom Crotty, Ineos spokesman, is the Manager.

Shell employees have higher salary levels and a higher pension package than the workers at Grangemouth.
