SNP Punishing Glasgow Voters Says Connarty

Michael Connarty accuses the Scotland SNP government of punishing Glasgow for voting Labour.

SNP IS PUNISHING GLASGOW FOR VOTING LABOUR SAYS MP

In a heated exchange in the House of Commons, Linlithgow and East Falkirk MP, Michael Connarty accused the Scotland SNP government of punishing the people of Glasgow for having voted Labour.

He said Glasgow City Council funding has been cut by 3.7% while in other parts of Scotland, SNP councillors are experiencing very small cuts.

During the debate on the Scotland Bill, SNP MP, Pete Wishart attacked Glasgow City Council. In response, Michael Connarty said, “I should like Glasgow City Council – which is a wonderful council – to be properly resourced, rather than having its budget cut by 3.7%. This is what the Scottish Government has  just done, at a time when the city needs more resources. Other areas with a large proportion of SNP councillors are experiencing very small cuts. That is another abuse for which the people will take the Government of Scotland to task, and will take the SNP to task in particular.”

Mr Connarty continued afterwards, “At least in other areas where the SNP have a constituency MSP, they have argued for a low level of reduction in grant from the Scotland government. In West Lothian, the grant cut is only 0.4% and in Falkirk it is 0.9%. But Nicola Sturgeon appears to have encouraged an attack on Glasgow’s grant support from her SNP government. How can she attack Glasgow’s people and expect them to vote for her party.”
