Michael Connarty
Labour Member of UK Parliament - Linlithgow and East Falkirk Constituency
The National Union Of Students in Scotland (NUS) have written to Michael Connarty MP to thank him for standing up for their members and voting in the House Of Commons strongly against higher tuition fees.
In the letter sent to Michael the NUS have pledged to continue their fight against these punative fees despite the House Of Commons vote which was cast narrowly in favour of the Conservative / Liberal Democrat Governments fees increase measure.
The NUS state "We don't plan to give up this fight any time soon. We only hope we are wrong, but as we start to see Scottish Students being denied the opportunity to study elsewhere in the UK, as money from the student support budget is increasingly spent on servicing debt rather than supporting students and as we start to see the balance of who applies to universities in England shift towards the privileged at the expense of everyone else - this debate will come back with a vengance. We don't plan to let any MP who voted for these damaging proposals forget their role in bringing them to fruition - equally we want to thank MPs like Michael Connarty who voted for the future university education to be affordable to every potential graduate."
