MP Urges Senior Citizens to Save Rail Fare Support

Michael Connarty MP is calling on all senior citizens and their families to help reverse West Lothian Council’s proposed withdrawal of the Concessionary Rail Travel Scheme.

Michael explained that he had written to Peter Johnston, the Leader of West Lothian Council, to oppose the proposal to withdraw the scheme, which allows Senior Citizens to travel by rail at reduced rates. In his reply Councillor Johnston had said the Council was still ‘consulting’ on the proposal (see letters attached).

Michael said, “It is a shocking proposal and an attack on all local senior citizens and it has to be reversed. Senior citizens should be encouraged to keep active, and in many parts of West Lothian they can do that by travelling to facilities by train. It is now up to every local senior citizen and their families to write to Alex Linkston, the Chief Executive of West Lothian Council at West Lothian House, Livingston and tell him in no uncertain terms that they are opposed to the withdrawal of the Concessionary Rail fare scheme. If the Council are genuinely ‘consulting’ they will listen and reverse their plans, rather than ram them through regardless”.
