Michael Connarty Supports Future Jobs Fund.

Michael Connarty MP is concerned that a potential Conservative Government would scrap Labours "Future Jobs Fund"which guarantees employment or training for every 18 - 24 year old.

Michael Connarty MP called on the Tories to abandon their plans to scrap extra jobs for young people, after he discussed the positive impact on "Jobs of the Future Jobs Fund" with Minister Yvette Cooper.

Michael said: “We have got to keep investing in jobs through the recovery. That’s why I am backing the Future Jobs Fund which will bring more jobs to the area, a fund that David Cameron wants to slash. In previous recessions unemployed young people were forgotten and left on the scrapheap.  We can’t let this happen again. That’s why I support Labour’s guarantees - an education or training place for young people up to 18.  And a job or training place for 18-24 year olds out of work for six months, but the Tories would scrap the Future Jobs Fund meaning 14,900 fewer jobs in our area for young people and the hardest hit.”

The numbers of Future Jobs Fund jobs in Scotland is 14,900 – jobs that the Conservatives would scrap.

The FJF means 120,000 jobs for young people UK wide and 50,000 for the hardest hit areas. The Labour Government has already announced over 100,000 FJF jobs across the UK in areas such as environment, sports and the arts, giving young people a proper job.

In their document ‘Get Britain Working’, the Tories committed to scrapping the funding for Future Jobs Fund.
