Michael Connarty
Labour Member of UK Parliament - Linlithgow and East Falkirk Constituency
As the Member of Parliament for the West Lothian village of Newton Michael Connarty is deeply concerned about the impact on traffic travelling through this picturesque Community when the new Forth Crossing is operational in 2016.
Of particular concern to Michael is Transport Scotlands own projections for a traffic increase through Newton of 20% and their refusal to consider a short link road to the A9 west, which would greatly reduce goods traffic travelling from the bridge through Newton to the port of Grangemouth.
Michael said "At the recent briefing in North Queensferry Transport Scotland outlined their plans and timeline for the new Forth crossing.I'm deeply concerned about their own admission that traffic flow through Newton is projected to increase by 20% and there are no plans for a link road to the west bound A9 which would effectively solve the traffic increases through the village.I shall be making representations to Transport Scotland on this most serious issue in my Constituency and will keep the community of Newton informed of any developments"
