Michael Connarty
Labour Member of UK Parliament - Linlithgow and East Falkirk Constituency
Torphichen MP Michael Connarty is spearheading the fight to retain postal services through having a Sub Post Office re – instated in the historic and picturesque village of Torphichen.
The Linlithgow and East Falkirk MP called a public meeting which was held in the village pub the Torphichen Inn on Thursday February 2nd. Michael Connarty had lettered every address in the village, so a large turn out of concerned constituents heard their MP outline his strategy to help the village re open their Sub Post Office.
The Torphichen Post Office which included a small shop closed abruptly last November. Post Office Ltd are obliged as per the Code of Practice to inform the local Member of Parliament, the Local Authority and hold Public Consultation if they intend to withdraw postal services to rural communities – the code of practice was not followed in the case of the closure of Torphichen Sub Post Office therefore the campaigners led by their Member Of Parliament are writing a strongly worded letter addressed to the Secretary of State at the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills Vince Cable MP to demand the retention of postal services in Torphichen in the form of their village Sub Post Office.
