Michael Connarty
Labour Member of UK Parliament - Linlithgow and East Falkirk Constituency
Michael Connarty MP Campaigns For Post Office Improvements.
Michael Connarty has once again spoke up on improving postal services for his constituents. The Linlithgow and East Falkirk MP has asked these questions in the House Of Commons to the Minister for Consumer and Postal Affairs Edward Davey MP.
Firstly Michael Connarty asked the fundamental question if there are any measures being undertaken to reduce queuing in post offices and what improvements were being made to customer services.
Michael then asked the Minister what discussions he is having with representatives from Santander, HSBC and other banks on customer access to the full range of current account transactions at post offices – this would be especially helpful to rural areas with existing post offices where access to banks require travelling to the nearest town.
In reply to Michael Connarty’s question on queuing and customer service improvements the Minister has contacted the managing director of Post Office LTD Ms Paula Vennells with the concerns raised and has agreed with Mr Connarty that all UK current accounts should be accessible through the post office network, although ultimately this he stated” will be a commercial decision for each bank to take”.
Michael Connarty said “At every opportunity I will continue to press this Government to improve postal services .Presently rural Constituents face one, sometimes two bus journeys to and from neighbouring towns to visit the nearest local branch of their chosen bank in order to access a current account. I will continue to campaign to get all banks to offer a full range of current account transactions at post offices throughout the UK”.
