Michael Connarty MP calls for a 50mph limit on Torphichen to Bathgate road

Michael Connarty MP for the Linlithgow and East Falkirk constituency is calling for a 50mph limit to be set on the Torphichen to Bathgate road, following a nasty accident, witnessed by a constituent walking on this road at the time, where a car travelling at speed rode up the embankment and turned over to avoid hitting a car emerging from a farm entrance.

Statistics published by Lothian & Borders Police Road Safety Department and the West Lothian Council Traffic Management Section revealed that 21 crashes had occurred on this speed trap road in the last 2 years. Pedestrians who walk this road regularly are constantly at risk for their safety from speeding cars.

Michael said:

“I was shocked by the original descriptions of the crash that narrowly missed my constituent – but more shocked to learn there had been 21 accidents in only 2 years. A speed limit of 50mph must be introduced before someone is killed”.
