Michael Connarty Demands Government Action On Obesity.

Michael Connarty MP has asked a very important question in the House Of Commons to the Leader of the House and his Health Secretary to formulate a strategy to deal with the UK obesity epidemic.

Linlithgow and East Falkirk MP Michael Connarty has asked a most important question to the Leader Of The House and his Cabinet colleague the Health Secretary to formulate a strategy to deal with the obesity epidemic in the UK and with the hidden dangers of trans fat contained within many processed foods eaten by many people on a daily basis.

Michael Connarty strongly said in no uncertain terms that the Government have effectively abandoned their responsibility to the electorate with their refusal to ban trans fats - which have been scientifically proven to cause obesity and health related problems - in the food processing industry and the the Governments present reluctance to formulate any kind of national anti - obesity strategy. (Michaels speech can be seen in his Parliamentary Speeches page )

Speaking about his question Michael said, "Something has to be done by this Government to tackle the ever increasing obesity epidemic. I am shocked when I travel around my Constituency with the levels of obvious obesity that I see. Firstly trans fat has to be banned as an ingredient in the manufacturing of processed food. Presently we have been abandoned to the processed foods industry as they continue to add trans fats unregulated. Secondly this Government have also abandoned the strategy against obesity in England and appear to have no plans whatsoever to deal with this most serious health issue facing the whole of the UK. I will continue to press the Government on this issue until a national anti - obesity strategy is launched."
