MICHAEL CONNARTY BACKS FOOD STANDARDS SALT REDUCTION CAMPAIGN

MICHAEL CONNARTY BACKS FOOD STANDARDS SALT REDUCTION CAMPAIGN

Linlithgow and East Falkirk MP Michael Connarty has joined with the Food Standards Agency in supporting their initiative to highlight the risks of excessive salt consumption and to support their campaign to have a “traffic light system” on all food packaging measuring the total salt content within the product,in order to help people make informed choices when selecting the food they buy.

Michael said “I am sending all the Food Standards Agencys material to the two local authorities within my Constituency.  This well researched and easy to understand material could be distributed in Schools, Libraries and other public buildings helping break the present salt dependency especially in Scotlands Children.  We now know through medical research the potential health risks associated with a salt rich diet, the most serious being angina leading to heart disease.I feel strongly this campaign is a step forward in improving one aspect of the nations health and well being".
