Michael Connarty MP statement on Child Benefit withdrawal.
"I do not agree with the Liberal Democrat / Conservative Government's proposal to withdraw Child Benefit. In particular taking it from families based on one parent's income. It is clearly a nonsense if two parents each earn near the threshold yet get Child Benefit, whereas a one earner family over the threshold will lose. Someone who will not work will get more for each child yet those who work and strive will not. Why are the Government punishing hard working parents?"
