Local MP welcomes £75m Syngenta investment at Grangemouth Plant

Michael Connarty MP for Linlithgow and East Falkirk has today welcomed the announcement from Syngenta of an additional investment of more than £75 million in their production site in Grangemouth. The facility in Grangemouth will be expanded over the next three years to accommodate a significant increase in the production of azoxystrobin which is the active ingredient for the world’s leading fungicide AMISTAR®.(see attached letter from Syngenta.

Global food supply needs to increase by 50% over the next 20 years if growing demand is to be met. The use of crop protection products is an immediate and sustainable way to increase agricultural productivity. Today’s announcement will enable Syngenta to play a leading role in providing growers around the world with the tools they need to protect and improve yield.

Michael Connarty MP, who is the secretary of the Chemical Industries Group in the UK Parliament and has represented Grangemouth for 16 years said: "Syngenta already sell $1 billion each year of Amistar products, their biodegradeable plant protection fluid out of Grangemouth. They also carry out their main R&D in the UK. This is great news for a great workforce and employment in Scotland.
