LOCAL MP PUTS THE CASE FOR CHEMICAL INDUSTRY
Local MP Michael Connarty joined Leaders from the Chemical Industry Management and Unions to press the case for Government support for the Industry in the forthcoming budget.Michael, who is the Secretary and a Past Chairman of the Parliamentary Group for the Chemical Industry said:
" With thousands of Chemical Industry jobs in Linlithgow and East Falkirk it is vital that the government appreciates the massive contribution already the industry is already making to the Scottish and British economy. I have been an executive member of the Chemical Industries Group for the past 13 years and remain impressed with the ability fo the industry to discover new products such as Amistar manufactured by Syngenta at Grangemouth. It is also an industry where the Trade Unions and Management work closely together to manage change in a way that benefits employemnt and the wider econmony equally. The Chemical and pharmaceutical industry has a value of £60 billion, and have a net export contribution to the UK of £30 million each year, and employs 600,000 workers directly and indirectly. As a very energy intensive sector, the chemical industry has been making great strides in reducing its energy use. I am happy to join them in pressing for sensible pricing for climate change initiatives so that such a vital UK industry is not damaged in the world market"
