LINLITHGOW RAILWAY STATION ADDS INFORMATIVE LOCAL CYCLE ROUTE INFORMATION BOARD

LINLITHGOW RAILWAY STATION ADDS INFORMATIVE LOCAL CYCLE ROUTE INFORMATION BOARD

Cyclists arriving at Linlithgow train station now have the local area mapped out showing cycle paths, towns, villages and places of interest thanks to a new user friendly cycle route information board.

Local MP Michael Connarty, who came to the unveiling ceremony by bicycle was asked to speak, and commended the efforts of Dave de Feu and friends from the Lothian Cycle group, SPOKES and First Scotrail for providing such a visitor friendly sign board.  He also noted the support of the Linlithgow Clarion Club and the bookshop in providing copies of the new Lothians cycle way map.

 Michael said:

“As fitness and leisure cyclists, my wife Margaret and I welcome this kind of assistance for cyclists visiting the area.  In days gone by cyclists would find a chain of cycle shops open 7 days per week where local knowledge could be exchanged.  We have a new local Cycle shop in nearby Bo’ness and one in Brightons, but signboards such as these allow people to both have the pleasure of exploring the cycle paths more fully and also to know where to turn off and enjoy towns like Linlithgow, and villages along the way.  The revival of the Clarion cycle clubs, which used to one of the community and health initiatives of the early cooperative ideals is really pleasing to me.  I look forward to exploring the cycle paths more fully in the future.”
