Electricity Top Up Safe Campaign Launched

Electricity customers using prepay meters are being alerted of an ongoing scam and are being urged to follow the top up safe message.

Michael Connarty MP is urging his constituents who purchase their electricity using prepay meters to be on the lookout for bogus door sales people claiming to offer payment cards at discounted rates. These cards are worthless and anyone unfortunate enough to fall for this fraudulent scheme will end up paying for their electricity supply twice.

In response to this ongoing scam energy companies together with consumer focus have launched the Top Up Safe campaign informing customers that energy companies never sell prepayment cards on the doorstep and only registered outlets such as the post office sell top up cards. The campaign team will aim to stamp out the fraudsters with a poster and media campaign.Top Up Safe are delighted that Michael Connarty has backed their campaign and is helping to promote their important message throughout his Linlithgow and East Falkirk constituency.
