Michael Connarty
Labour Member of UK Parliament - Linlithgow and East Falkirk Constituency
Michael Connarty has raised a very important question during Prime Ministers questions. The Linlithgow and Falkirk East MP has asked why the present Government intends to breach part of the Good Friday and St Andrews Agreements on the future of Northern Ireland.
Michaels question was - "Following a meeting with the Northern Ireland human rights commissioners yesterday, it is clear that this Government intend to breach the spirit and the letter of the Good Friday and the St. Andrews agreements by refusing to bring in a Human Rights act specifically for Northern Ireland,as recommended by the commission and supported recently by more than 80% of the Protestant and Catholic communities. How can the Prime Minister possibly excuse this betrayal of the people of Northern Ireland?"
In response the Prime Minister assured Michael Connarty that he would "look at that carefully" and "write to the Honourable Gentleman"
Michael now awaits Mr Camerons letter detailing the Governments full answer to his question and any positive move towards the signing of a human rights act as do the vast majority of people in Northern Ireland who support the ongoing peace process.
