Connarty Backs Compassion In World Farming.

Michael Connarty votes against beak trimming on domestic poultry as recommended by Compassion In World Farming.

Linlithgow and Falkirk East MP Michael Connarty has voted in the draught mutations (permitted procedures) ammendment against beak trimming which is backed strongly by the animal welfare organisation "Compassion In World Farming". Presently the contoversial procedure of beak trimming in domestic poultry chicks is legal in the UK despite strong evidence on many fronts of the detremental effect this procedure has on the birds welfare.

The previous Government had pledged to legislate against beak trimming with a planned ban on the practice being in place as early as January 2011 however the present Government have suspended the ban until at least 2016. Presently beak trimming is illegal in many EU Countries ie. Sweden, Norway, Finland and Switzerland with Compassion in World Farming hoping to have the ban expanded to the UK.

Peter Stevenson the Chief Policy Officer with Compassion In World Farming has contacted Michael Connarty to thank him for all his support in this campaign and in other animal welfare campaigns where the Linlithgow and East Falkirk MP has been supportive.
