Michael Connarty
Labour Member of UK Parliament - Linlithgow and East Falkirk Constituency
Michael Connarty MP joined representatives for the “Campaign for Better Transport” to focus on problems caused by train fares.
Michael said “only 40% of passengers think their rail ticket is value for money and affordable rail services are vital to them.
UK train fares are the highest in Europe. Train fares have risen in real terms by 7% while the cost of motoring has fallen by 13%.
Research shows that reducing rail fares today by 20% (to around the European average) could increase rail travel by 17% by 2015.
When people take the train instead of driving or flying, it means less CO2, traffic, noise and pollution.”
