£1,180 Tax Credit overpayment written off for constituent

Local MP, Michael Connarty has again succeeded in having a constituent’s incorrect Tax Credit demand withdrawn following a protracted correspondence with the Tax Credit Office.

Michael said “a demand for the repayment of money from the Tax Credit Office is a common occurrence. The Tax Credit Office insisted that the overpayment should be paid in full. It was clear that the overpayment was not the fault of my constituent but in fact was a major error on the part of the Tax Credit Office. Eventually the Tax Credit Office admitted their error and wrote off the total overpayment. They even awarded my constituent an extra £100 in recognition of the worry and distress they caused".

Michael added “Sometimes an MP just has to dig in and argue a strong case on behalf of his constituent who has clearly done everything correctly. It is a good feeling when we win their case”.
