Welcome. I am Michael Connarty, the MP for Linlithgow and East Falkirk. I hope you find my website useful. You can find news of my work as an MP, local surgeries and contact details.

What I do

I am the MP in the UK Parliament who represents the communities in West Lothian of Armadale, Bathgate, Blackburn (part), Blackridge, Greenrigg, Linlithgow, Linlithgowbridge, Newton, Philpstoun, Torphichen, Westfield, Whitburn and the East Falkirk communities of Avonbridge, Blackness, Bo’ness, Brightons (part), California, Grangemouth, Limerigg, Loan, Maddiston, Muiravonside, Reddingmuirhead, Rumford, Slamannan, Standburn, Wallacestone and Whitecross.

I believe that being a MP in the UK Parliament should be a full-time job. I do not have earnings from any other source and I would ban MPs’ outside earnings.

I have twice-weekly open surgeries and two full-time staffed offices in Grangemouth and Bathgate. I have built up a record over 22 years as a ‘fighter’ for thousands of my constituents and for communities who have not been treated fairly.

In Parliament I am the leading Labour MP (and past Chair) of a major Select Committee on European matters. I also hold Executive positions on influential Parliamentary groups on Oil & Gas, Chemical and Nuclear Energy Industries.

I have led successful campaigns on Tips & the Minimum Wage; on Compensation for Victims of Contaminated Blood (the Skipton Fund); on Extending Copyright payments for recordings and Against Human Exploitation & Modern Slavery.

NO PUBLIC MONEY WAS USED TO PAY FOR THE DESIGN OR THE HOSTING OF THIS WEB-SITE. I have paid for this website entirely out of my own money. The views expressed on the latest political issue will be my personal views as a Labour MP or the position of the Labour Party which I support.

Recent work

  • Working in Parliament: I recently submitted a private members bill to Parliament that will create a framework for large firms operating in the UK to make vigorous checks to ensure slave labour is not used in third world countries, and the UK, to produce their goods. I now sit on the committee that is developing this bill.

  • Postal Services: As organising secretary of the CWU, the Communications Workers Union group of MPs in the UK Parliament, I am a passionate campaigner for telecoms & postal services including local post offices. I played a leading role in opposing privatisation and continue to fight for Royal Mail and keeping local Post Offices open.

  • Child Support Agency: I have fought for hundreds of constituents who had problems with the Child Support Agency. I have won many cases with one recent case resulting in the CSA paying out over £9,000 due to the CSA’s internal mistakes.

  • Benefit Changes: The Conservative/Liberal Democrat government have made disastrous changes and cuts to the benefit system, which I have opposed. I am constantly helping genuine people who are now facing problems, particularly with the change to Personal Independence Payments (PIP) from Disability Living Allowance (DLA); Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) (previously Incapacity benefit) and the unfair work capability assessments carried out by ATOS.

  • Long-term illness: This is a problem in much of my constituency from the industrial past for miners, steelworkers, brickworkers, car workers and others. I have taken up many ongoing cases over Industrial injuries, Incapacity and long term health conditions.
